Reiver Games, a young game company whose taste in quality board gaming can only be asserted by pointing out that they published my first game design as their second game, is set to publish their third game: Carpe Astra – Seize the Stars, by Jackson Pope (the publisher) and Ted Cheatham.

In Carpe Astra you play contenders for the throne in a future empire, trying to build enough support among powerful guilds to claim the throne for yourself. Players control a number of ‘operatives’ who help them to form connections with the guilds either supporting the guilds or slandering an opponent, weakening their standing with the guilds.

Bunco and Breast Cancer

I’ve seen a few dozen articles about Bunco in the news recently, none of which looked worthy of any attention. This one is an exception.

A woman decided to donate the winnings of her Bunco game group to breast cancer research on behalf of her friend who was diagnosed with the disease. She then encouraged other groups to do the same.

As of today, this initiative has raised $673,000 for breast cancer research.

For the uninitiated, Bunco is a relatively mindless dice game gaining in popularity among suburban women.
