A parent of a student at the Cardiff Chess Club has accused the club of “failing” to protect the students from “dodgy” web sites that appear in the referrer list on its web site.

The links on this list, which are generated automatically by a statistics software package and were accessible from the statistics page of the site (now removed), included some sex sites as referrers.

Said the parent: “The material on those sites was disgusting. I’m amazed that children could access such filth.”

Obviously, this parent has never been to Google. Sheesh.

Gary Kasparov, former chess world champion turned Russian politician, declared that the organizers of Chess failed to capitalize on the dynamic personal rivalries that existed in the 1980s and 1990s, which is why, today, the game is not as popular as sports such as Boxing and Tennis.

I would have thought that it had something to do with watching a board game that takes 10 hours to play, as opposed to an adrenaline filled sports match, but I must admit that Tennis has some downtime, too.
