Gleemax to Disappear

This post on Gleemax from Randy Buehler explains why Gleemax, WotC’s initial online initiative, is closing, in favor of Magic Online and Dungeons & Dragons Insider.

The site will close in September, and any contents you may have uploaded to, or written on, the site must be copied somewhere else before then.

From Jim’s Product Lab at Litko Aerosystems come 11 new tokens compatible with 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. The tokens are 1 inch square color-coded acrylic pieces etched with words to indicate a figure’s condition, such as “stunned,” “surprised,” “deafened,” “prone,” etc. The tokens are designed to be placed underneath a miniature on the typical 1 inch grid playing mats.

Useful as these tokens may be, what’s really cool from Litko is the new nuke marker. This one’s available in three sizes and may be the last thing you put onto the battlefield!

There’s a legend going around the “dumb laws” circuit that playing dominoes on Sunday is illegal in Alabama.

Well, nothing could be closer to the truth. The law, specifically Alabama Law: Alabama Code: Title 13A — CRIMINAL CODE.: Chapter 12 — OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC HEALTH AND MORALS.: Section 13A-12-1 — Certain acts prohibited on Sunday, reads, in part:

“Any person who … engages in shooting, hunting, gaming, card playing or racing on that day … shall be fined not less than $10.00 nor more than $100.00, and may also be imprisoned in the county jail, or sentenced to hard labor for the county, for not more than three months.”

Of course, Section 13A-12-5 — Unlawful bear exploitation; penalties, reads, in part:

“A person commits the offense of unlawful bear exploitation if he or she knowingly does any one of the following: (1) Promotes, engages in, or is employed at a bear wrestling match. (2) Receives money for the admission of another person to a place kept for bear wrestling. (3) Sells, purchases, possesses, or trains a bear for bear wrestling. (4) For purposes of exploitation, subjects a bear to surgical alteration in any form, including, but not limited to, declawing, tooth removal, and severing tendons. …”

City Council Woman, Gamer

Bethel, Alaska’s newest city council woman is a part-time gamer.

The board game is called “Settlers of Catan,” and it’s little wonder Tiffany Zulkosky and her pals make time to play it when social calendars allow.

But as she gets more involved in real-life public service and the political scene of Bethel and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Zulkosky will likely count on game-night cunning and the exuberance of youth to benefit the region she loves.

The Letter Carrier Game

No, it’s not “going postal”, it’s a board game from Matt Kaminski, son of a real, live, retired letter carrier.

Other than that the board is modular, the game’s official site doesn’t say much. The source says more:

The object of the game is to optimize the delivery path and be the first to finish. The game board is printed on both sides, and each side is made up of 16 5-by-5 inch neighborhoods named after towns and cities across the United States. Average playing time: 90 minutes.

Chance cards include obstacles, incidents, and transportation. Players who draw a bicycle card, for example, improve their productivity; but another card can bring the obstacle of an angry dog into the game. There are also cards that add dangers, like falling ice – but any player holding a previously drawn helmet card would be immune.

Players can also accumulate cards that can be used to help or sabotage an opponent, so as the game comes to a close, a card can be used to upset a delivery.

Even More Chaotic

On a roll, 4kids is taking their Chaotic CCG and making it available on MashOn.com, an online application that lets people create customized comic books and graphic novels using licensed art and images.

The point of which is to expressly permit the general public to make use of their products for things like fan art and avatars.
