NECA has a new Harry Potter game: Hogwarts: House Cup Challenge, an adventure board game based on the first five Harry Potter films. The game allows 2 – 4 players to portray Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville in their quest to win the House Cup for Gryffindor.
With Hogwarts, we wanted to create an adventure board game with a lot of flavor, a decent amount of depth, and a minimum degree of luck. There are no dice in the game. Characters can move up to 3 spaces each turn, and once Characters have achieved a certain level of ability in a particular area, they can accomplish adventures of a certain difficulty automatically.
Even the Adventure Cards that the players encounter are often set up by the players themselves. We created a system where players attempt to build a “hand path” (i.e. a sequence of cards in their hands) so that they could encounter adventures in a certain order for greater efficiency. Of course, some adventures do pop onto the board randomly as well, and the players can also play difficult Adventure Cards on their opponents before they’re ready, especially if their opponents dare to wander the Forbidden Forest…
NECA sure has a boatload of licenses.
