Recently confiscated by the UK police for possible use as a terrorist weapon, the War on Terror board game continues to make many people uncomfortable. Zavvi ordered 5,000 copies of the game, only to skittishly reject them a day later. At the end of a lawsuit, the game’s owners ended up with full payment and half the games.
So they’ve decided to give away the 2,500 104 paid-for copies absolutely free. They’ll be doing that in front of Zavvi’s Oxford Street location in London, tomorrow, August 19 at 12:30 pm.

NiteSkye has created a series of six pocket-sized magnet games, including Chess, Checkers, and four new games.
Cratestar, pictured, is a solitaire game where you have to move four barrels into a corner before the monsters get you. A little like a first-gen computer game, it’s not sophisticated. But the game prices – $4 – are hard to argue with.

Swimmer Michael Phelps just won a world record 8 gold medals at the Chinese Olympics games, beating the previous record held by fellow swimmer Mark Spitz in 1972.
His favorite memories of these Olympics? “Card games and board games with his teammates and time spent just hanging out with them in the village.”
Somehow I doubt it, but it’s nice to hear.

While other news sites tirelessly tell you about Hasbro’s makeover of their board game Cluedo (that is SO last week’s news), here’s FoodO, a game similar to Cluedo with a hygienic food theme.
FoodO was produced by environmental safety officers of Taunton Deane borough in the UK in order to educate about food safety issues. The object is to discover who got food poisoning, from what, and where.
The board game is three years old, and they just made a PC game out of it.

More than a year ago, Samuel H. Sloan, a former member of the U.S. Chess Federation’s executive board, and a forum administrator accused famed Chess players and board members Paul Truong and his wife Susan Polgar of faking sexually charged posts in his name in an attempt to discredit him. Something to do with board politics.
Internal emails were then compromised, and fingers have been pointed in all directions. The Secret Service is investigating.
Last week, Susan filed a lawsuit claiming libel, slander and business disparagement against Sloan, claiming that he has it out for her family and her new endeavor: the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence. Susan also claims that her sex and nationality (Hungarian) are a factor.

The women’s team of the Georgian Chess Federation is unwilling to participate in Chess championships in Russia, given the current military activity.
