Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.

Open Source CCG: Conspiracy

Conspiracy! CCG is the first work in production by the open source design project 4GXG (for gamers by gamers).

4GXG is a wiki where the public contributes rules, designs, story, ideas, essentially everything to game designs. You can download the initial rules (DOC), and card samples.

For added bonus, $10,000 has been allocated to contributors, with $2,500 already haven been given away.

Just in time for the Democratic National Convention, Purple Pawn has learned of Politically Correct, The Game. While not the only board game to deal with controversial political issues as the publisher claims, it certainly ranks on our list of insensitive games currently in print. DIP Enterprise claims that Politically Correct “pokes fun at Democrats as well as Republicans,” yet also states that “the game deals with debatable political topics, i.e. illegal immigration, Islamic terrorism, global warming and many other subjects that the liberal mainstream media ignores or reports with a bias.”

Pick one of six politically incorrect characters to play as – an illegal Mexican gardener, an Islamic terrorist, a pedophile Catholic priest, Farmer John, or a black pregnant teenage girl. Throughout the course of the game, try to offend the least amount of people, collect the most cash, and stay in one piece by avoiding the suicide bomber and you win!

Space Marine Preview

GW Cover for Codex:SM

Games Workshop is back in the news again!  In addition to yesterday’s awesome news, GW has released a preview of the new Codex: Space Marines.  The preview includes a look at the section on space marine chapters, force organization and color schemes.  This newest iteration of the codex won’t be available until October 4th, but here are a few of the changes that have already been leaked:

  • The book is massive – nearly double the size of the 4th edition codex
  • Lots of forces get nerfed (psychic powers, weapon choices and Whirlwinds)
  • Librarians have two powers for free
  • Scout bikes have lots of new upgrades (like homing beacons and booby traps)
  • Legion of the Damned are now available as an elite choice
  • Assault veterans can assault on the same turn they deep strike

Thanks to the rabid acolytes at Dakka Dakka for collecting this list of changes and many more!
