In South Carolina, all games with cards or dice, from poker to Monopoly, are essentially illegal. That includes private games played in your living room. Last February, the law was changed to allow a few games to be played as fundraisers within churches.
The police really go around arresting people if they hear about games being played for money, whether for betting or through buy-ins. Five such guys have been fighting a 2006 arrest for playing poker and their lawyer is now arguing that poker, while involving luck, is a game of skill, and should be exempt from any gambling laws.
This is the first time, to my knowledge, that the definition of poker is going to court.

Hasbro has finally dropped their lawsuit against the creators of Scrabulous.
Hasbro is now willing to say that the games Lexulous and Wordscraper are sufficiently different from their own, and they claim to be happy to compete.

According to the Australian online newspaper Smart Company, the Australian Taxation office is not allowing for gaming consoles OR computer games to be tax deductible. This is a disappointment not only to parents, but a disappointment buying gifts this year, but also a disappointment to schools using computer/console games in the classroom.
