A few copies of 1993’s Scenterville Orchard are available for sale on eBay. Draw an item, identify it by scent, and move the fruit. (image taken from the eBay listing)
Of course, we all remember P.U., the Scratch and Sniff board game (covered here). They have a new web site.
After these two, we have to stretch the definitions a bit.
Stinky Doo is a selection game with 20 cards with pictures of babies in diapers on them. 19 of the cards have fresh-smelling diapers.
Then we have scratch ‘n sniff stickers with Candyland pictures on them. I’m not sure what to do with these.
In the WTH? department comes Paper Rock Scissors and Stuff from Azikwe Toys, a game of RPS with a science fiction theme. No, I have no idea.
Here’s the copy:
- It’s a fast action novelty card game…
- It’s a new spin on the classic hand game…
- It’s a new comic book series…
- It’s unlike anything you have ever experienced!
Each ‘element’ (Paper, Rock, Scissors) is now a sentient being that exists on a planet in a galaxy far from ours – yet their societies reflect the same positives and negatives of human existence. War, greed, love, violence, friendship, sacrifice, hunger for power – each element’s kingdom has a story to tell. A planet spanning war is about to erupt and YOU hold each kingdom’s greatest warrior in your hands!
The same publisher is joining on the Obama bandwagon with a deck of cards, each of which carries trivia questions about notable black people from history. Trivia questions are T/F or multiple choice. It’s subtly titled The Black History Month Playing Cards / Trivia Game Combo Set.

The New Yorker just republished a 55 year old article about the history of Scrabble, said history being only 5 years old at the time.
It tells the early struggles to get the game going, and ends with the sudden surprise deluge of requests for the game.

Topps previously announced that it was selling all of WizKids’ properties, but now intends to keep the profitable Battletech and Shadowrun lines.
This is bound to be disappointing to Catalyst Game Labs, the current publishers of Battletech and Shadowrun products, who had made an offer to buy the complete rights to the product lines. Catalyst had already made a tentative arrangement with Pinata Games, formed by ex-WizKids employees with the intention of continuing the HeroClix line, another former WizKids property.

Two new GURPS books are available through e23. Well actually, the first, GURPS Ultra-Lite, isn’t a book, but rather a single page distillation of GURPS Fourth Edition rules that can be folded in to booklet form and is free to download and distribute. The second is a 50 page supplement with rules for mass combat. The system it presents is relatively abstract, enabling quick resolution of large scale conflict, yet providing ample opportunity for individual characters to influence the outcome.
Function follows form in the latest release from One Bad Egg. Hard Boiled Cultures aims to provide the tools for adding a bit of complexity and ethnic diversity to the standard races of your D&D 4E campaign. The supplement outlines the methods, provides concrete worksheets, and even illustrates the process with several examples, including apelord intellectuals and dark faerie dwarves.
