Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.

pass_outLiberal Australian MP Steve Irons asked that the adult drinking board game Pass Out be banned by the Classification Board of Australia. The Board’s jurisdiction is currently limited to films, video games, publications, music, and mobile phone content.

A Perth man was upset to find the board game in a local flier, listed alongside “children’s board games” (unspecified). He wrote to the MP asking that the game be banned, and the MP agrees, believing that the game encourages binge drinking.

sign_itSign-It is a roll-and-move pick-a-card board game for drilling sign language. On your turn, roll the dice and pick a card. You have thirty second to make the correct sign.

The game comes (from some of the sources) with a 258 page illustrated book on sign language. Just one more example of adding a very basic game to make learning just a bit more fun.

You can also get a number of other sign language games from ADCO hearing products.

Infection

infectionInfection is a roll-and-move board game from Eagwig games that simulates catching, spreading, and curing infections. No, it’s not that one. This one is from 1998.

Infection has accurate and educational information about specific infections and how they spread. Then gives you several options on how to cure them, including going to the Voodoo doctor (which might work, but with less chance than a specialist).

Earwig also has a new card game called Go Knights! Go Dragons! The rules are not included on the site, but it looks suspiciously like Go Fish (hopefully a bit more than that). Update: it’s essentially Go Fish.
