Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.

Arc Dream Publishing, creator of one of the most original superhero RPGs of all time, Godlike (heroes manifest during World War II, but you only get one, very specific power), has updated its core superhero RPG based on the same system, Wild Talents. Wild Talents features a large number of powers, lots of flexibility and a super simple (no pun intended) set of mechanics. Don’t feel like throwing down in the modern world? Check out their American Civil War setting, This Favored Land.
No, it’s not a merit badge. No board game merit badges, yet.
But you can get a Girl Scout Scrabble Patch if your troop institutes a Scrabble club.
It’s just one program of the School Scrabble Association, which helps schools, clubs, and even homeschoolers run Scrabble programs and tournaments. They sell tons of Scrabble-related merchandise at WordGear, including Scrabble-doku, Scrabble room rugs, and Scrabble ties.

I’m pretty sure that ANY game with decision making and simple rules is as good for Alzheimer’s patients as any other, but if you want officially designed games for that purpose (other than those silly repetitious video games that Patrick Stewar t hawks) you can get A-HAH! Memoritz and Fruito, two card games from Greater Than 60, a group looking to design products and services for the elderly population in Singapore.
In Fruito, you match the cards to make fruit. In Memoritz, you match a numeral on one card with a number of objects on another.
Frankly, I couldn’t imagine giving this to anyone over the age of two; surely even elderly Alzheimer’s patients could handle something more interesting. The games were designed in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Singapore.

The 2009 US Go Congress will be the 25th anniversary of the congress. It will take place in Fairfax, VA Aug 1 – 9.
The event will attract high ranking players, pros, and dans from across the US and internationally, but it’s open to the public and anyone can try their hand at the game (and then get their game evaluated).
It’s the largest US event in Go.
