A Third Living Card Game?

In a monthly update for the Call of Cthulhu Living Card Game (LCG – essentially, a non-collectible card game with regular releases of new cards), Nate French, lead developer for the line, dropped a bit of a bomb that doesn’t seem to be getting the proper amount of attention: Fantasy Flight Games is launching a third LCG based on an undisclosed property. To quote Nate:

Enter the Darkness

This summer, Fantasy Flight Games will be announcing the debut of our first entirely new Living Card Game. All I can say now is that it’s an amazing game with a powerful license, and that lead designer Eric Lang and I have had a blast working on it.

I’ve not been able to dig up any confirmation of what the license may be, but the dominant theory seems to be that the game will use the Games Workshop IP (either Warhamer 40K or Warhammer Fantasy). This makes sense for a number of reasons: (1) the property has previously supported a popular CCG (the long running WarCry game), (2) FFG has been going out of their way to take advantage of their agreement with Games Workshop in every way possible and (3) it would be awesome. Okay…maybe that third one isn’t a real valid reason, but you get the idea. Any one got a better theory on what the next LCG might be?

AGoS LogoSalt Lake City’s 4th annual board game convention ‘A Gathering of Strangers‘ is being held on July 10-11 at the University of Utah’s Officer’s Club.  The cost to attend is $15 ($20 day of) for one day and $25 ($30 day of) for both days.  Events will include:

  • Tournaments for Settlers, Ticket to Ride, Dominion and Bridge Troll (subject to change)
  • Two Murder Mysteries (one on Saturday, one on Sunday; extra cost to join)
  • Game Demos
  • Game Library
  • and of course, LOTS of open gaming!

The Board Game Designers Guild of Utah is also holding its first ever Strangers’ Choice Award, where industry professionals review completed prototypes made by members of the guild in order to determine a ‘best of show’ of sorts.  With The BGDG already having nine published titles amongst its members, the designs shouldn’t dissapoint.

So if you’re in the area, come and join the other attendees for a great weekend of board gaming action.

The table is yours,

Phil

Playing Card Promotional Items

quality_playing_cardsWhile some use Monopoly-style games (or pens or frisbees) as promotional items, Florida-based Quality Playing Cards thinks it’s promotional playing cards a better bet. Quote:

Pens, mugs and hats disappear, and people lose them and they break. A deck of cards is something no one ever throws away. That advertising is perpetual for months and years.

They do both fronts and backs, and customizing is a personal process (no automatic online orders).
