Signal Fire Studios

Signal Fire StudiosVeteran game designer Jamie Chambers is launching a new publishing venture with homage to the genre’s earliest history. Signal Fire Studios will publish a new edition of the first science-fiction RPG, Metamorphosis Alpha, using the very latest version of its chief rival for the hearts of early gamers, Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. The company will be producing other games as well, some using the Cortex System, but c’mon MA using D&D 4E!

James Ward, the creator of Metamorphosis Alpha for TSR in the 1970s, will be working with Signal Fire Studios’ design team, to be led by Cam Banks. The game will make use of Wizards of the Coast’s GSL, adding new races, new character classes, tech skills, and mechanics for figuring out the use of unfamiliar technology.

Murderland

MurderlandMurderland appears to be a hack of the classic boardgame Clue and is available as a downloadable set of rules from mostly-RPG distributor Indie Press Revolution. It seems instead of solving the murder, this version has players killing each other off while searching for the hidden sack of cash. Might work well as a surprise for the adult guests after the kids have gone to sleep.
