Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.

Wild Planet Hyper Dash

wild_planet_hyper_dashWild Planet Hyper Dash from Wild Planet is a kinetic floor game. The central unit has several games, essentially all race games.

The five disks can be placed anywhere (on a table, around a room, across a football field) and the unit instructs you to tag the disks (via RFID) by color, number, or even math equations. Games get progressively harder as they go on.

Best yet, the unit tracks the times and scores, eliminating one major cause of arguments.

They also make Hyper Jump, where you have to step on the pods, and Hyper Blast, where you launch balls across the room and have to return them in the correct order.

Summer is here, and I’m getting too many events to warrant individual posts for each one, so here goes (some may get additional posted information, later):

The American Cribbage Congress kicks off in Sunnyside. (source)

A rival to the World Boardgaming Championships, the Mind Sports Olympiad is 11 days in London starting August 21.

The summer ACBL Bridge Nationals are happening right now, and nearly over, in fact. The World Teams Championships, now held every two years, is scheduled for the end of this month and beginning of next in Brazil.

Gen Con is coming up in 10 days. You’ll probably hear more about that on this site.

ku-mighty

Scant days after announcing a collaboration for a mobile CCG-like game called Mind Twist, Richard Garfield is now tied to a brand-new card and figures game called Ku-Mighty. It will be produced by a new gaming venture called Ultimate Game Hideout.

The story is “an epic tale set in the not too distant future weaving the entirety of human history in a fantastic pop Sci-Fi tale.”

And Garfield says, “With Ku-Mighty, we’re giving the gaming world something brand new in terms of gameplay, and a highly detailed and engaging story to boot.” Not much more in terms of specifics, but the suggested age is 10+, game times is supposedly 20 minutes, and, as you can see from the graphics, there’s a bit of Asian-influence in the game.

And, natch, the animated series is already planned.
