Mingle Word-Roulette

mingle

Mingle Word-Roulette is a Boggle-like game that comes with a mini-roulette wheel, timer, die, pencils, pads, and a dictionary. The game is by sggc Famlee Fun Games, designed by Rose and Tony Aceti.

I’ve viewed the videos and read the site; unfortunately, the complete rules are not online, and I can’t tell you exactly how it plays. It looks like the person who spins gets the opportunity to gain a few extra points or decided on certain letters.

MMA Board Game

mma_game

The Mixed Martial Arts board game by Kenny Knoll Ashley Terrell and Brett Siciliano is from sggc Extreme Fight Games. I’d like to tell you more about it, but the instructional videos on the site are broken.

A wild guess: choose a fight style and then roll the dice to see how it goes. First to a certain number of points or a condition wins.

Update from Ashley, the designer, who corrects the information about the designer; Kenny was hired to provide photography. Ashley also adds details on the mechanics:

There is a Stand Up and Ground fighting area, just like real fights, and you have the opportunity to go between the two through out the play of the game. You can play either 3 rounds or do a 5 round title fight, each round averaging 11 minutes. With the 30-sided Fight Dice, you can determine if you are standing up or going to the ground, or win automatically by Knock Out or Submission, just as real Mixed Martial Arts fights. If you don’t win by Knock Out or Submission, you win by an accumulation of points with in the 3 or 5 rounds.

The post’s title is the sub-title of the board game Prosperity (not related to two previous board games called Prosperity).

The theory, according to the below video, is that blacks will feel self-empowered when they see black people on high-denomination play money.

There are a few other differences with Monopoly:

Prosperity doesn’t mean perfection; at times big problems occur, for example: although the “No Justice No Peace” card indicates a willingness to be incarcerated for a just cause; the ‘Arrested’ card indicates involuntary restraint. The State and Federal political influence (cards) can turn any horrific jail experience into a mere inconvenience. For those without political influence, they must gamble with the justice system, which includes an appeals process if necessary. Another problem card to avoid is ‘Ouch’, if selected you must pay 65% of your cash-on-hand for alimony and child support. Ohhhh, what you really don’t want to do is get the ‘Major Accident’ card and then Action Roll an 11 or a 12; nope, you don’t want that.

Above and Beyond Concepts is one of many companies who put up the website and the concept for a game, hoping that others will fund the game’s production. They are a little different than some of others, however.

For one, they have several games ready for production, not only one. For another, they’re looking to raise investment in their company, not for people to buy their IP or do the publishing work.

And for a third, they’ve got this, uh, interesting concept of the vinyl roll-out game boards called “Dial-a-Game”, which reminds me of Kramer’s roll-out cravat invention on Seinfeld.

collateral_damageThere are lots of anime CCGs, but not too many anime board games that I know of. Here’s one called Collateral Damage from sggc Gozer Games.

It has some amusing mechanics: each miss causes destruction to the city. If a city takes too much destruction, everyone loses, apparently. And your character may become distracted from his or her mission he or she falls in love with a MOTAS in the same city.

Richard III

Richard IIIToday, Columbia Games will begin shipping Richard III, its block war game about the struggle for the English crown between the houses York and Lancaster. Originally titled Wars of the Roses in development (and not to be confused with GMT’s upcoming Crown of Roses), Richard III is now part of a planned series of games based on Shakespeare’s historical plays, including later Julius Caesar, Macbeth, and Henry V.

The d20 Soap Opera

Drama Soap Opera SourcebookOther companies continue to push the d20 (officially, straight OGL) products. Among them, ComStar Games’ latest is a bit unusual. Drama: Soap Opera Sourcebook presents tools for roleplaying daytime television. The PDF for d20 Modern includes new character classes (such as The Playboy and Suspicious), feats, random encounters, and campaign advice.
