WotC Launches Social Networking Site

wizards_community

Wizards of the Coast has beta-launched Wizards Community, a social networking site. It expands the previous forums with wikis, groups, friends lists, a calendar and invite system, photos, blogs, personal pages, and so on. Powered by OneSite, Inc.

Speaking of Wizards, they just held their pre-launch event for the next MtG set, Zendikar, which will launch officially this weekend.

Random Board Game Roundup

When I just can’t think of where else to put the news …

Unite for Site, an organization that helps to improve eye care and prevent blindness, presents Eye Health Caregiver, an educational board game about eye care and health. (source)

Niall O’Farrell of Dragon’s Den (and founder of Black Tie) is trying to knock down a house on Shrewsbury Rd, Dublin and build another, bigger one. David McCann, a fruit importer and local resident, is trying to stop the development by claiming that the street’s preeminent position on the Irish Monopoly board indicates that its character should not be changed. Lebanon-A-Con will be this weekend in Lebanon, OR. The con is organized by BGGer Roger Munk, which explains why the Democrat-Herald story indicating that this is a fundraiser for the St Martin’s Episcopal Church also notes that the event will feature games such as “Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Robo Rally, Arkham Horror and more.” (source)

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have married; they met while playing Boggle and Scrabble on a movie set. (source)

What’s a Dame to Do? Goes UK

whats_a_dame_to_doWhat’s a DAME to do?! is a game from sggc Games for Dames. Or the company may be called “Sisters 2 Inc.” Hard to tell.

The game is a party game where one player is faced with a “girlie” dilemma. The other players give her possible reaction cards and then vote on the one they think she is most like to choose. Think pajama party.

Anyhoo, the game is now also available in the UK (at the usual $ = £ conversion rate) from a sggc called Blue Monkey Games, apparently yet another name for the company.

Precis Intermedia Releases More Brutes

pli880coverToday Precis Intermedia released an expansion to its print-and-play miniatures game, Brutes.  The expansion, titled More Brutes, adds 12 more heroes (they call them Disposable Heroes®) and 15 new new character, weapon, and armor gimmicks/traits.

The base game came out this year, and is pretty inexpensive at $2.95.  The expansion weighs in at $1.95.  I can’t vouch for the quality, but at those prices it may be worth a try.  Brutes is described as an easy to learn, quick, fantasy miniatures game.
