Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.

Playing in the Dark: A Collision of Chess and Art is an exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, also sponsored by the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis who will be hosting the 2009 US Women’s Chess Championship starting next week.
Unlike static art exhibitions we’ve featured, this one is performance “art”. Anna Zatonskih, defending U.S. Women’s champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, will play five players while blindfolded. Jennifer Shahade will perform HulaChess, which is Chess played while hula-hooping (ya got me).
