Asbestos Management Board Game

High up on the list of the most popular themes in board games has got to be asbestos management, but darned it if it isn’t hard to find any good ones on this wildly popular subject.

Fear not, for the UK company Rhodar has created an Asbestos Management game called SAFEguard, “in which key aspects of H&S legislation, risk management, health and hazards on site, SAFEguard and all things asbestos are quizzed in a manner akin to Trivial Pursuits or Monopoly.”

Yeah, no one gets quizzed in Monopoly, but without using Monopoly as a reference point, how would you know that “board game” doesn’t refer to bison meat on a plank?

While several smaller game companies are always on the lookout for new game submissions, AEG recently posted a specific request for a line of games set in a renaissance city. See source for details. (source)

Loaded Questions is looking for new questions for new expansions to their game. They’re running a contest with five prizes of $5,000 each. (source) Is that more cost-efficient than simply paying someone $25,000 to do it? I don’t know.

Speaking of game design, Alf Seegert of the Board Game Designers’ Guild of Utah wrote some extensive notes on the game design process [PDF] in a recent BGDG newsletter. Great reading.

Tweet WoW

WoW LogoSimultaneous Realm Championships for the World of Warcraft CCG will be taking place around the world this weekend. In typical marketer fashion, Upper Deck is asking participants to tweet about it and will be giving out prizes to those that do. They helpfully suggest appropriate hashtags. And just to make sure there’s no question as to who’s serving who:

Your tweets should look something like this: “Just won an iPod Touch in the Realm Open! #realmchamps #ashenvale”.

d20—Gone But Not Forgotten

goodman-games3rd AgeTen months after withdrawing them from the market, Goodman Games is again selling all of their 3rd edition D&D products as PDFs. This includes the whole range of Dungeon Crawl Classics, Judges Guild, Wicked Fantasy Factory, DragonMech, Xcrawl, and Complete Guide monster sourcebooks. Scrubbed of the d20 logo, each now sports a “3rd Age” label and relies on the OGL.
