Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.

Basic Concepts

Mystic TowerBasic Concepts adds another game to the Relic Raiders line with Mystic Tower. Relic Raiders is a series of pop-up board games that unfold to create a three-dimensional playing surfaces with movable paths and other elements that can be manipulated by the players. The story behind the game, described in an accompanying comic book, involves two-person teams of treasure hunters, each with their own unique skills and strengths.

Another game recently released by Basic Concepts is Fast4Words, in which players take turns placing letter blocks in to an upright grid—kind of like building a word-search puzzle. Players score points for building words, but also for moving quickly (as measured by the built-in electronic timer).

Chunky Fighters 3rd Edition

pic490338_tFor those of you unfamiliar with Chunky Fighters, it’s a print-and-play dice game designed by Nick Hayes. The game is now in its 3rd edition, and that means all sorts of updates for the base game and its expansions.

The downloadable files contain everything you’d ever need to make a Chunky Fighters set. Templates for paper dice, printable stickers if you have blank dice, even templates to create great, retail-quality packaging for the game.

In Chunky Fighers you control a character made of dice. As you take damage, the dice are flipped to reveal battle damage on your character. Each character has its own weapon die, and has all sorts of actions that can be taken. Players can call shots, disarm opponents, heal, etc…

The idea of the game intrigues me, and the art looks great. I love the fact that you can make retail boxes for the game.
