Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Wizards of the Coast announced today that the company is not renewing its Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. New products are scheduled through April and will remain available through August. But after that, no more Star Wars RPG or miniatures from WOTC. It’s hard to imagine, though, that some other company wont give it a go. Feel free to speculate in the comments.

1Sounds like the Star Wars license just doesn’t yield a good enough ROI.

2I expect Star Wars is an expensive license. In fact, it was probably even more expensive when WOTC first got it.

3I see Fantasy Flight looking at a very tight window… get a 1 year deal and busting out 5 games with 10 expansions.

4I wonder if Decipher would be financially healthy enough to reacquire the license. Although I did not play their Star Wars TCG, it would be cool if the brought it back to market. Then maybe some more old TCGs would return.
