AEG calls their latest a “shufflebuilding” game, which means that each player starts Smash Up creating a deck of cards by combining two factions—say pirate-dinosaurs or ninja-aliens or robot-zombies. Then it’s a matter of playing minion cards to capture one of the base cards (locations), or action cards to fiddle with the minions already in play.

Expect Smash Up at retail later this month for $30. Expect expansion set announcements soon thereafter.
