Archaeologists have discovered board games carved in to the sidewalks of Roman-era Jerusalem, according to an article in Israel’s Haaretz newspaper. The article goes on to describe the research of Dr. Michael Saban of the Israel Antiquities Authority. Saban describes ancient Israel as a crossroads of board game traditions. Several Bronze Age boards have been discovered with Egyptian Senet on one side and a Mesopotamian racing game on the other.
