zomb_boxYou may remember that Zombicide finished its Kickstarter campaign with a whopping $780,000 back in May. I finally got a chance to sit down and play the game while at Connecticon, and I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw.

While I was expecting to sit down and take 15-20 minutes to learn the rules, I was able to just jump right into the action. Gameplay is super simple, literally taking me 5 minutes to learn while I played. The goal of the game in simple. Get the rice and the water and escape before you’re killed by zombies. You start off being able to take 3 actions, and you’ll get more after leveling up from killing zombies. Every turn zombies spawn and are always moving to get you. Combat is a simple roll of a die (or more if you’re dual wielding.)

I was lucky enough to win the game I was playing, but only because I was saved from certain death by a hockey mask I had picked up while searching a room.

If you’re looking for a big, in-depth play experience you’re not going to find it here. What you’ll get is a lighter game with a lot of amazing components. Is it worth the high price tag of around $75? That I’m not sure of. I really liked the game, and you DO get a lot of nice components, but it feels like much for such a light game.
