Cyvasse

CyvasseFor those you are fans of A Song of Ice and Fire, you already know what I’m talking about when I mention the game Cyvasse. For those who aren’t, the game is one from George R. R. Martin’s famous series of fantasy books.

There’s not a whole lot of information about the game in the books, but there was enough for people to go on. One such person, Michael Le Page, fleshed out a game from the books and manufactured a set using 3D printing. The rules of his game have changed over the course of development, but you can now purchase Cyvasse sets on Shapeways for  around $305 total at its cheapest.

It’s a bit pricey, so I doubt many people except for die-hard fans are going to bite. If something like this ever reached a reasonable price you can be sure I’d be in line to snag a set. The look of the board and pieces tickle me in just the right way.

Modern Art D3

d3Designed by Nvenom8, this striking D3 has to be one of the best of its kinda I’ve ever seen. It’s probably the easiest to read, also. All you need to do is toss the die, and read the top “bar” to see what number you’ve rolled.

You can order the die in a bunch of different materials and finishes, with plastic being the cheapest at $11.42, and premium silver being the most expensive at $80.92.

A very cool piece, but that those prices this one is pretty much for collectors.

Here’s a video of the die in action.

Air Hogs Cage Armor CADAnother sign post on the road to home 3D printing of game components was installed by Spin Master recently. The company released to the public CAD files for plastic armor that attaches to the company’s Air Hogs Heli Cage remote-controlled helicopters. In addition to printing as-is at home or through an online service, the CAD files can be manipulated for custom projects.
