A game board and pieces said to have been carried by King Charles to his execution in 1649 recently sold at auction for just over £600,000. The folding board includes surfaces to play Chess, Nine Men’s Morris, and Backgammon. It’s constructed of amber with gold foil and silver hardware, and is inscribed with the titles of episodes from Ovid’s Metamorphosis.
