We completed eight rounds of playing Off Your Rocker, so I got out my trusty eight-sided die and rolled… 8. The winner is Anthony.
Thank you, everyone, for participating. I had a great time! I hope you did too.
And don’t forget to back Off Your Rocker on Kickstarter! The campaign ends in a little less than a week and we want to see this game funded.
Thank you also to Stratus Games for providing the prize.
Round 8 of our Off Your Rocker Quirky Contest begins now. As your patients, the other Pawns and I have a quirk. Ask your questions in the comments below to figure out what it is.
UPDATE: The final round goes to Anthony. The patients are terrified of each other. Later today I will announce the winner of the game, randomly selected from among the winners of the individual rounds.
The other Pawns and I are your patients. See if you can figure out what our quirk is. Ask your questions in the comments below. Round 7 of our Off Your Rocker Quirky Contest begins now.

Let us begin round 2. As your patients, the other Pawns and I have a quirk. Ask your questions in the comments below to figure out what it is.
A couple of clarifications… All us patients share the same quirk. Each of you, the psychiatrists, get two guesses, so you have more than one opportunity but shouldn’t waste them lightly.
And remember, you can help Stratus Games publish Off Your Rocker by backing it on Kickstarter.
UPDATE: Round 2 goes to Ken. The patients believed they were talking dogs! Stay tuned for round 3.
Join the casual game revolution!
That’s the motto of Stratus Games, the company who’s previous releases include such easy-fun titles as Eruption, in which players try to redirect lava from a volcano using walls made of sticks, and DiceAFARI, a dice-based photo safari around maps formed in the shapes of various animals.
Stratus Game’s latest project is Off Your Rocker, a party game of “quirky insanity” that is now available on Kickstarter.
You and the rest of the patients are suffering from a quirky problem and the psychiatrist must guess what it is by asking random questions. Will he be able to diagnose the quirk, or will he end up just as crazy as you?
Playing Off Your Rocker is pretty simple. Each round, one player is the psychiatrist and the rest are patients. The patients draw a Quirk Card and select one of the quirks. The psychiatrist then gets to ask the patients questions. Whether they’re asked the same or different questions, in every case patients must answer in the most creative and entertaining way possible, without directly revealing the quirk. For example…
Quirk: Players think they are trapped in a bottle.
Q: What did you do today?
A: I built a ship in a bottle and really got in to it.
Q: How do you feel?
A: Not so great. I’m feeling a bit stuffed up right now.
Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: Recycling!
If the psychiatrist guesses the quirk before time runs out, he or she scores a point. Patients receive points for their performances—as voted on by other players. The first player to six points wins.
Now, usually I’m not much of a party game player. I’ve always been the straight-man here at Purple Pawn. But I have to admit, this game intrigued me. Enough so, that when Stratus Games asked if they could give away a copy of Off Your Rocker, I had this idea on how we could play a version of it here on the website.
So this is what we’re going to do. Right now, the other Pawns and I have selected one of the actual game quirks from a sample provided by Stratus. We’re going to be the patients and all of you are going to be the psychiatrists. Ask us questions in the comments below. As we have a chance, we’ll answer them consistent with the quirk. The first person to correctly guess the quirk (and post it) will be the winner for that round. New rounds will continue through noon Eastern Time on May 14th. After that, I’ll randomly select a contest winner from among the winners of the individual rounds. (Yes, you can improve your odds by winning more than one round.)
As I mentioned, Off Your Rocker is not yet in production. Stratus Games has put it up as a Kickstarter project. So if this sounds like a fun game, or you play along with us and get hooked, you can help get it published by backing it on Kickstarter.
At the moment with 19 days to go, Off Your Rocker is 33 percent funded. The game will include 200 Quirk Cards with 800 quirks, 40 point cards, and a sand timer. A copy of the game (shipped free to the USA or Canada) is included with every pledge of $20 or more. At $100, backers get copies of Off Your Rocker and all four other games produced by Stratus! The winner of this giveaway will be sent his or her game along with the Kickstarter backers.
So that is it. Let’s get started. Who has a question?
UPDATE: The winner of round 1 is Anthony, who correctly guessed that the patients are obsessed with food. Watch here on the Play page for a new post later today starting round 2.
