Savage Tales of Horror

Savage Tales of Horror volume 1Savage Tales of Horror is a three-volume anthology of frightful adventures for the Savage Worlds roleplaying game. The books include selections for various Savage Worlds settings, including Solomon Kane, Deadlands, The Last Parsec, Slipstream, and others, as well as a number of generic adventures. This one in volume 2 sounds fascinating:

As players in a roleplaying game you love to fight demons and monsters as wizards and warriors. But what about when the LARP of Horror becomes all too real?

The Savage Tales of Horror series releases in PDF form one volume per week for the rest of September. They’ll be available in print next March.

Deadlands Licensed Media

Deadlands

Pinnacle Entertainment Group has licensed its Deadlands property to Visionary Comics, which in turn is working with IDW Publishing on trade and Tor Books on a line of novels.

The first trade book, Dead Man’s Hand, collects four previously published Deadlands one-shots and is planned for release in March 2015.

While there is no schedule yet for the novels, three are already in progress by authors Jonathan Maberry, Seanan McGuire, and Jeff Mariotte.

Deadlands’ creator, Shane Hensley, has signed on with Visionary for transmedia projects. Pinnacle reports that a Deadlands live-action television show is still being actively developed with Microsoft’s Xbox Entertainment Studios, despite the latter company’s announcement in July that it would shut down that business.

Deadlands, An Xbox Original

Deadlands

Microsoft has announced a slate of original video programming to be released through its Xbox game platform. One of the shows in development by Xbox Entertainment Studios is based on Deadlands, the horror-western mashup RPG from Pinnacle Entertainment Group and Shane Hensley.

Deadlands has seen a number of incarnations, including d20 and and GURPS, but currently uses Pinnacle’s Savage Worlds game.

According to Microsoft, its new Xbox Originals programming will make use of the system’s interactive features and will also be available through other outlets.

Xbox Entertainment Studios has committed to a script based on the successful pen-and-paper role playing game created by Shane Lacy Hensley. “Deadlands” is a genre-bending alternative history of the Weird West, filled with undead gunfighters, card-slinging sorcerers, mad scientists, secret societies, and fearsome abominations.
