mafiavendetta

I know, I know, but I just can’t get enough of Fantasy Flight lately. We had a grand introduction of your favorite Red Viper and the Martells a few days ago, and now FF is leading us out of the Summer Sea shores into a Mafia town, where players are divided into two large groups, the civilians and the Mafia members.

Each player is further assigned a specific role that carries a special ability. The two groups must utilize the scattered clues to discover everyone’s true identity, and eliminate the real foes in order to survive in the ruthless community. And to make things extra delicious, the game also features two alternative modes: Yakuza and Loner. In the Yakuza mode, another criminal clan is added to fight against the Mafia and the civilians, while in the Loner mode a powerful role that leans to the Mafia’s side brings twists to the civilians’ mission.

Mafia: Vendetta is a party game for 7 to 17 players, and is expected to be released in Q3 2015.

samurai

Originally published back in 1998 and being categorized by players as part of the famous Reiner Knizia’s “Tile-laying Trilogy” (Tigris & Euphrates, Samurai, and Through the Desert), Samurai is an influence-gaining competition set in feudal Japan. To win the favor of the leaders in religion, commerce and military factions, players place normal hexagonal tiles as well as 3 wild tiles (namely Samurai, Ronin and Ship) onto the four main islands of the nation to surround the respective settlements.

This new version of Samurai features fresh design of the game board, tiles and leader tokens, and is expected to be released in Q4 2015.

Gen Con 2015 Exhibit Hall: Hello, Hall G

Gen Con logoThe Gen Con 2015 Exhibit Hall is even bigger, but we all knew that was coming with the convention’s record growth. This year’s Gen Con has the exhibit hall has 283,000 square feet and about twenty additional vendors than the 2014 convention. In previous years, Hall G was host to Magic: the Gathering tournaments and organized events from AEG, Fantasy Flight Games, and others. There are 390 vendors listed on the official exhibit hall map (available at http://www.gencon.com/exhibit/map), about twenty more than in 2014. (Vendors may occupy multiple separate booth spaces.)

An earlier version of this article indicated that 2015 was the first year that the exhibit hall expanded into Hall G. Gen Con expanded the exhibit hall into Hall G in 2014. We regret the error.

Forbidden StarsFans of the Warhammer 40,000 board game franchise will be happy to know that Fantasy Flight Games recently announced the upcoming launch a space-themed war game for the sci-fi lover in you.

Forbidden stars is set in the Herokon Cluster where factions from across the galaxy have converged to plunder for treasures and planetary claims in a section that was, until recently, surrounded by impenetrable Warp Storms.

Designed for two to four players, the game puts you in command of either the Ultramarines chapter of Space Marines, the Eldar of Craftworld Iyanden, the Evil Sunz Ork clan, or the World Eaters Warband of the Chaos Space Marines. The various factions offer different armies and play styles, so you can pick the one that best suits you.

In this heavy strategy battle game, players must plan out their scheme, but must also pay close attention to what their opponents are up to. Play special order tokens against your opponents to stop their attack or advancement. The board is constructed of 12 double-sided system tiles, each divided into void spaces and planets. Players move across the board along the road to war.
