Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
According to the Turkish Daily News, Istanbul will hold the “World Chess Championships” – instead of the proposed Iran – since FIDE was unwilling to abide by the restrictions Iran wanted to impose on the event. Namely, that all women wear head scarves, men can’t enter the women’s arena, and Israelis not attend.
One wonders if Iran will allow its players to attend the event in Turkey if women don’t wear head scarves and Israelis attend.
As to exactly which world championship the article is referring to, I’m not sure, as the event, scheduled for December, does not yet appear on FIDE’s event calendar.
