Over here on the East coast of the United States, it’s just past 12:00 AM on June 6th, the official release date for Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. Despite differences in opinion over the changes in store for the most popular roleplaying game, no one, I think, can dispute that this is a major event for the hobby games industry. The question is, does it have the potential to attract new players to tabletop gaming? If early results are any indication, I’m encouraged by the fact that the $58 three-book boxed gift set of 4th Edition has reached number five on Amazon’s bestseller list. In fact, ICv2 recently reported that in light of strong prerelease sales, Wizards of the Coast has already ordered a second print run.
