This won’t be the first time, or the last time, that games are used in an effort to preserve a fading language or culture.
In this case, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe has launched a project to preserve the Ojibwe language, which is slightly different from the Canadian Ojibwe dialect in case you were wondering.
Spearheaded by Julie White Pigeon, the Tribe has hosted gatherings and created tools such as Ojibwe board games, Bingo, and Charades.
To do your part, the next time you win a game try saying “Geep Kinagay!”

I don’t see where i can access the board game. Am i missing something
It’s really sad when you compare Ojibway language as separate and different from one another. We all come from the same Ojibway Language and Ojibway Nation. What’s Canadian Ojibway dialect? That’s a warped way of thinking that needs a cure. We all need one another to preserve and save all Ojibway.
Boozhoo,
I work for an Ojibwe Language Program that works with 7-17 year olds. I specifically work with the teens(age 13-17) on their Ojibwe and I need activity and game ideas to teach them Introductions, 4 medicines, and simple phrases. Please keep me updated on any ideas you have for games and/or activities. Miigwech!
Please inform me as to anything I can do to help preserve the Ojibway and other Native languages which are currently endangered!
I will gladly help in any way I can. I used to work with Julie Whitepigeon.
