onepollA research site Onepoll asked UK residents what their favorite board game is and the result was Monopoly. Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Chess, and Cluedo were runners up.

It seems to me that asking people what their “favorite” board game is is more likely to get you the list of the most famous board games, rather than the most favorite board games. Scrabble is the number one selling game this year, for instance. And most board games simply remain unknown to most people, because parents don’t buy them for their kids.

For comparison, Onepoll’s survey of the most popular video games were: Super Mario Bros, Pac-Man, Tetris, The Sims, and Sonic The Hedgehog. (source)
