I see articles about local game groups all the time, and the best ones come from university newspapers.

The Maine Campus of the University of Maine profiles “hardcore gamers”, including players aged 2 to 50, games including RPGs, Magic: the Gathering, Apples to Apples, Warhammer 40K, Werewolf, and World of Warcraft, and the recent SnowCon convention.
