Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Muzoracle from JS Kingfisher is a … uh … well, I’m not really sure what it is. It’s got 12-sided dice that correspond to some sort of musical scale, an 89 card deck representing different notes from different instruments, and some way of corresponding all of these into feelings and music.
The result of playing with it might be similar to what Mozart got when he threw dice to create a symphony.
Out of Muzoracle came Musician’s Dice, which more directly fits the above comparison, perhaps.
If these are all too esoteric to you, you might wait for his Muzundrum, a game from JS’s label Philomuse, which is supposed to be released soon.

Thanks for the mention of our products. The MUZUNDRUM is now available on our site.
To clarify, the MUSICIAN’S DICE are a composing tool. Also good for students and teachers of music theory. For any musician into 12-Tone these are perfect. They were originally developed for use with the Muzoracle but are sold on their own as well for the above mentioned uses. And they look great on a piano or coffee table.
The MUZORACLE is a divinatory system and thus calls for some study and contemplation in its use. Though visually and conceptually beguiling, it does not provide an “instant payoff”. Its structure is like a hybrid of tarot cards and the i-ching, making it our most “esoteric” product. What sets it apart from other tarot sets is that it is entirely based on music theory. In addition to offering a response to the querent’s question or issue, each layout also provides a unique musical score that can be read, explored and expanded upon by a musician with their instrument. If the querent is not a musician, they can simply drag and drop their layout into the positions they got in the “Casting Engine” on our website and hit “play” and it will play it back for them.
And the MUZUNDRUM as mentioned above is now officially released and available for order at the Philomuse website. It utilizes 21 of the Musician’s Dice on a honeycomb patterned game board and plays like a game of Scrabble. However, this game is only suitable for those with a knowledge of music theory and is perfect for the student. Instead of scoring points by building words, players compete by building scales and triads in three directions on the honeycomb (as opposed to two directions in a Scrabble game). I’m happy to add that the Muzundrum was just awarded “Coolest Game” by the Tools for Schools committee at NAMM 2010, the music industry’s annual trade show which takes place in Anaheim. This was our first time exhibiting at the NAMM show and we had a great time.
