Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Veteran game designer Jamie Chambers is launching a new publishing venture with homage to the genre’s earliest history. Signal Fire Studios will publish a new edition of the first science-fiction RPG, Metamorphosis Alpha, using the very latest version of its chief rival for the hearts of early gamers, Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. The company will be producing other games as well, some using the Cortex System, but c’mon MA using D&D 4E!
James Ward, the creator of Metamorphosis Alpha for TSR in the 1970s, will be working with Signal Fire Studios’ design team, to be led by Cam Banks. The game will make use of Wizards of the Coast’s GSL, adding new races, new character classes, tech skills, and mechanics for figuring out the use of unfamiliar technology.

Thanks for spreading the word! We’re really excited about the direction of the new Metamorphosis Alpha, and know that we’ll be introducing the property to a whole new crop of gamers who know nothing of the “old days.”
I never actually played Metamorphosis Alpha back then, but I think I remember reading that Dragon article on how to mix it with D&D. Implementing that now strikes me as some kind of time warp.
