Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Arimaa is an abstract game by Omar Syed which can be played with a chess board and pieces. The expressed point of the game was to be difficult for computers to play without better artificial intelligence, something that was not the case with Chess (which uses brute force play and opening game and end-game playbooks).
The rights to the game are owned by Syed, but he allows unrestricted usage of the game for non-commercial purposes. Z-Man Games makes a commercial version of the game (pictured).
Like other games, there is a world championship, as well as a standing prize for getting a computer player to beat a human player.
