Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
A few minutes ago, the ever-useful podcast, ManaNation, broke some pretty big news – later today, Sony and Wizards of the Coast (WotC) will be announcing a joint venture to release Magic: the Gathering Tactics, a new video game based around the MtG franchise. This new title seems to be a pseudo-MMO with players having the ability to engage in a single player game as well as online Player vs Player. This title seems to be more action oriented than previous outings (though still considered a turn based strategy game – perhaps along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics?), which have traditionally focused on the card game itself. No graphics yet (and the website doesn’t seem functional yet) but the game is expected in “early 2010.”
What’s that? You didn’t know there were other MtG video games? Please, check out the list on Wikipedia for the full list of games (and might I recommend the first title by Microprose which is still in use today).
Update: Here’s the official announcement and video!
