Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Yeah…I just said eighth edition. We don’t normally report on every rumor that comes down the pike, but we’re starting to see details filter out from the black mines of Games Workshop that you probably want to know about. This eighth edition will sport a standard boxed set, but rather than the typical human army (usually Empire or Brettonians), this new set will bring together the High Elves and Skaven (so if you were thinking of starting a new Skaven army to take advantage of those gorgeous new models, you might want to hold off just a bit longer…). What about the rules you ask? Here are the major changes currently expected:
Overall, we’re hearing that this will be a faster playing game, but we’ll have to see how it all plays out. Warhammer Fantasy Battles Eighth Edition is expected to release this summer with the new boxed set releasing this fall.

“rather than the typical human army (usually Empire or Brettonians), this new set will bring together the High Elves and Skaven”
I am not sure about it being typical to have a human army. The last edition had Dwarfs and Goblins, while High Elves had already been pitted against Orcs and Goblins in 4th ed. 5th ed featured Lizardmen and Brettonians, while sixth had Empire vs. Orcs. So High Elves will now be only the second army to ever be featured more than once.
