Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Last week we talked about graphic design, so let’s talk about mechanics this week.
What are some of your favorite game mechanics? What games have you played that have had really unique, or interesting, mechanics? What games have you played where the mechanics really bog it down?
There’s a ton of mechanics out there I love. One that sticks out in my mind is the time mechanic in Zombie in my Pocket. I also really like the dual-use card mechanic in Twilight Struggle.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I still love Reiner Knizia’s “collect multiple resources, but only a full set counts as a victory point” mechanic.
I love the ‘Demand Barometer’ or ‘chute’ in Darjeeling. It visually demonstrates the demand for each type of tea which allows players to manage their shipments to optimize value and timing.
When a type of tea is shipped, the lowest marker is lifted out of the chute and placed at the top. The bonus is calculated by the number of markers between the two markers of the color that was just shipped.
