Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
For this week’s Parlay I’d like to talk about when you play games. I’ve already reached out a bit to our Twitter followers and Facebook fans, and now I’ll bring the conversation here.
So when do you play games? Do you have a game group that meets on a regular basis? Do you just play whenever you get a chance?
I play most of my games over my lunch hour at work. We try to get in as much gaming as possible, but I’d hardly call it regular.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I play regularly on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and Sunday afternoons. I would play every day of the week if I could actually get other people. I’ve played games 18 hours a day for 4 days straight and still can’t get enough. I need new friends.
My FLGS has $5 boardgaming every Wednesday and Sunday. I do 90% of my gaming on Wednesdays.
I also make random appearances at other local game stores to run tournaments and demos throughout the week.
I play RPGs with a regular group on Tuesday nights. I play board games mostly on Saturdays, sometimes with my family and sometimes with my friends. We used to have a monthly neighborhood board game group, but that hasn’t met in a while.
Speaking of gaming and work, when I was first joined the RPG group, I knew only one person and not too well. The first time I showed up, I discovered that one of the group (the GM that night) works in my office!

While my wife and I don’t have any regular game nights set up, we usually play with someone on Friday or Saturday night. We have three other couples we play with and can usually find them available on any given weekend.
In addition, about once a quarter we’ll get together with my cousin and her family and have a sleepover with the kids and stay up late into the night playing games. Then we’ll often play much of the next day as well. It’s a little crazy, but they are always some of the most enjoyable gatherings.
It’s funny because I can find willing game players on my side of the family quite easily, but on my wife’s side of the family people just look at me funny.
