While you sleep, busy legislators around the US are trying to ban, or permit, gambling of one kind or another. State by state, bills to license card or dice games for money, or eliminate their licenses, are introduced and debated, usually coming to nothing.

In September, Florida’s governor had reached a tentative agreement with the Seminole tribe to permit them to run banked card games within their casinos. However, he faced an uphill battle to get the agreement through the state senate and house. Well, the deal has just gone through the senate, and will likely go through the house next week. (source)

The deal is worth billions of dollars for Florida. Some opponents, however, are upset that no provision was made for any of this money going to the treatment of gambling addiction.
