With unanimous approval from the CPSC, Mattel has two more internal testing labs that it can use to do its lead testing, rather than have to submit its products for external testing as other companies without Mattel’s vast resources have to do.

You might think that this represents a possible future conflict of interest, a temptation for the world’s largest toymaker to act shadily if and when it will otherwise have to deal with huge financial losses while facing a future toy recall, or simply a travesty that makes it all the more difficult for smaller companies to compete in Mattel’s market space, but then what do you know?

A time-line of events.
