Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
I may be jumping the gun a bit here, but with the birth of my new son I now have 5 people in the house. Can you say captive audience?
I kid! … Actually I 3 kid! (badum-bum)
My first two actually really enjoy games, always ask to play their favorites, and aren’t afraid to try new games. I’m hoping this rubs off on the new, little guy when he’s old enough to play.
So, on to the parlay! What are some of your favorite games to play 5 player? I can’t say that I ever really have a chance to play 5 player games, so I really can’t talk on the subject much.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Accomodating five isn’t too difficult. Six is where it starts to be a problem. Power Grid, Kingsburg, and Railroad Tycoon all play well with five. I wouldn’t play Twilight Imperium with five again. It’s not the total number as much as the configuration of the board. It works well with six. Another game that I played with five people but haven’t in a long time is Divine Right. I’d love to pull that off the shelf again.
In addition to the couple David has thrown out, I’m a big fan of Mare Nostrum – great civ lite game with a low play time. That said, our standard five player game is Mall of Horror – not terribly kid friendly, but a great political game!
Let’s see, we’ve played Tsuro with eight players and that’s a pretty easy game to learn for kids, I’ve found. (Basically, chutes and ladders.)

When the kids are a little older, they could play Zombies!!!, but I don’t know how you feel about the gory theme.

And, of course, there’s always Happy Birthday, Robot! :D
Just played 5-player Incan Gold and Aquaretto with 9 and 12 year-old cousins last night and they both worked great.
