Source describes the efforts of Edward Launzel to get casinos to buy his patented double-wheel roulette wheel, but I’m more interested in that it briefly describes how Shuffle Master (owner of over fifty casino-related patents) came about.

Apparently, John Breeding invented a single-deck shuffler, but casinos wouldn’t buy it because they all used multiple decks for their Blackjack games.

So he invented the game Let It Ride, a single-deck game to go with his single-deck shuffler, and somehow casinos picked it, and the shuffler, up. Shuffle Master now has a market capitalization of $430 million.

John is retired.
