The International Mind Sports Association, the organization which ran the World Mind Sports Games during the China’s Olympics and will be doing the same in London in 2012, has accepted poker [1] as a game of skill. (source) This means that the International Federation of Poker joins the IMSA, which already includes the World Bridge Federation (WBF), World Chess Federation (FIDE), World Draughts Federation (FMJD), and International Go Federation (IGF).
Will this settle, once and for all, the issue as to whether poker is a game of skill? Of course not. Hungary just passed a law criminalizing all poker games played for money outside of casinos. (source) And the laws keep churning around from state to state in the US.
[1] I would guess that it matters which kind of poker.
