Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
I know I have a bit of a rep on this blog for being a fairly unapologetic fanboy, but this news has really taken me off guard: WizKids has signed a deal with CBS to produce a line of Star Trek clix. Don’t get me wrong, I like Heroclix as much as the next guy, but is this the time for another licensed property? Does no one else remember HaloClix? WizKids has been back in the land of the living for not even half a year and they split their focus and risk mistakes from the last bankruptcy? Now that I have that out of my system, there’s no indication of whether or not the line will be based around the ships of the Star Trek universe or the characters (I’m hoping for the former – they’d make great stand-ins for other games!). The new Star Trek clix will be available sometime around Christmas of 2010.

Good points on the splitting of attention. Star Trek is the strongest license they could get other than Star Wars though. I think that’s a good move.
That said, I, too, hope that they do the ships and not the people. Otherwise, they’ll end up with the same problem as the ST:NG CCGs – Picard and Data (and the other main characters) are too powerful and wipe out everything else in the game. I pray that they don’t do a “Crimson Skies” type system where they do ships and people. That might be the worst of both worlds.
