American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura won the Tata Steel Chess tournament, beating out many of the world’s top players, including Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand, and Vladimir Kramnik. (source)
Hikaru, born to an American mother and a Japanese father in Japan but moved to America at age 2, is (was) ranked #10 in the world. The last American to win Corus was Walter Browne in 1980.
