As a solitaire game, A.D. 30 has the player guide Jesus’ travels from the Jordan River to Jerusalem. Victory Point Games describes it as a “reverent” exploration of alternative outcomes.

Not to imply that other outcomes were in fact possible, but to build a strategy game that includes challenges with possibility of success and failure as the player of the game. Achieving the Major Victory (the historical outcomes) will demonstrate the extraordinary set of circumstances that took place and were necessary to achieve the birth of Christianity.

During the course of the game, three leaders, Pontius Pilate, Herod Antipas, and Caiaphas, are moved along a track on the board that brings them closer to attempting arrest of Jesus in Jerusalem. At the same time, the player’s goal is to assemble 12 apostles and enter Jerusalem with a high level of piety.
