Wizards of the Coast really seems to be taking this idea of embracing past Dungeons & Dragons editions seriously. Today the company announced that it would be reprinting the 3.5 Edition core rulebooks, Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual. That’s in addition to the recent AD&D reprints, which had a bit more nostalgic appeal, as well as less competition from Pathfinder. Then again, maybe crossover sales from Pathfinder is what the company is after.
Aw, so what!?! At least it’s now an option for those who’re interested. Personally, I’d like to see more extensive releases in electronic form.
WOTC describes the 3.5 reprints as “premium”—they’ll have new cover art and all the latest errata corrected.
In addition to these three specific books, Wizards of the Coast is also apparently considering reprinting other products from the third edition era. The company’s announcement contains a link to a survey that asks respondents to rate their top three products from each year of 2003-2007.
