chess_pieceAfter recruiting a coach and whole team from another college last year, Webster University won this year’s President’s Cup national college Chess championship, sometimes referred to as the Chess final four.

Also held this past weekend were the SuperNationals, Chess championships for primary and secondary schools. The big high school winner was the Edward R. Murrow High School from Brooklyn. In lower ranked divisions, winners included Nekoosa High School (Wisconsin) and St. John Vianney (Missouri). The junior high champions were Newark Academy of Livingston, New Jersey and the middle school champions Julia R. Masterman of Phildelphia.

Meanwhile, a 9-year-old fourth grader was declared the youngest ever Chess master.
