Welcome to Purple Pawn, covering games played around the world by billions of people every day.
Wizards of the Coast has made official what we all already expected. The company announced Thursday that a new version of Dungeons & Dragons will be released next summer.
Interestingly, the announcement did not refer to this coming edition of Dungeons & Dragons as “D&D Next”, the term used throughout the public playtest, sticking instead to the generic language of a “new rules system”. So at least it gives us that to speculate and argue about.
Also apparent from the announcement is WOTC’s emphasis on developing the Dungeons & Dragons brand through multiple channels, which is consistent with parent company Hasbro’s branded play strategy.
Players will be immersed in rich storytelling experiences across multiple gaming platforms as they face off against the most fearsome monster of all time.
And what’s that “most fearsome monster” thing all about?
